KidSTOP: Your One Stop for Kid-Friendly Outpatient Care

When your child needs testing, treatment or follow-up care, you want a place that provides specialized pediatric care with comfort and compassion. At CHRISTUS Children's KidSTOP, our pediatric team provides care in a welcoming, family-friendly environment designed to reduce stress and support healing.

Whether your child needs laboratory testing, imaging, intravenous therapy or follow-up care, we work closely with your child's clinician to deliver timely services while helping you avoid unnecessary visits to the emergency room whenever appropriate.

Appointments are only required for radiology services. Please call 210-704-4100 to schedule anent KidSTOP locations. Appointments are not needed for any other services listed below. Hours vary by location.

Laboratory Testing

KidSTOP offers a wide range of laboratory services to assist clinicians in diagnosing and monitoring pediatric health conditions, including:

• Complete Blood Count
• Comprehensive Metabolic Panel
• Basic Metabolic Panel
• Blood cultures
• Bilirubin testing
• Thyroid function testing
• Newborn screening
• Urinalysis and urine cultures
• Respiratory Viral Panels
• COVID-19 testing
• Influenza and RSV testing
• Tuberculosis testing, including PPD and QuantiFERON-TB Gold
• Additional clinician-ordered laboratory studies as appropriate

Imaging and Diagnostic Services

KidSTOP provides access to pediatric diagnostic imaging services, including:

• X-rays (chest X-ray, KUB and other clinician-ordered studies)
• Ultrasound examinations
• CT scans
• MRI studies
• Electrocardiograms (EKGs)

Radiology appointments are required and can be scheduled by calling 210-704-4100. Some imaging services may require prior authorization depending on insurance coverage.

Outpatient Treatments and Nursing Care

Our pediatric nurses provide physican-directed treatments and interventions, including:

• Intravenous (IV hydration therapy)
• Intramuscular antibiotic administration, including ceftriaxone
• Central line care for PICC lines, Broviac catheters, and implanted ports
• Catheter maintenance and medication administration
• Tissue plasminogen activator administration according to protocol
• Tuberculin skin testing
• Rabies vaccine follow-up doses when ordered by a physician
• Observation and monitoring following outpatient treatments

Orthopedic Support Services

KidSTOP can provide selected orthopedic devices and support services for children with minor injuries or post-procedure needs, including:

• Wrist splints
• Ankle splints
• Walking boots
• Post-operative shoes
• Arm slings
• Crutches and walkers when indicated by physician orders

Pediatric-Focused Care

Children often experience anxiety when undergoing medical testing or treatment. KidSTOP's child-friendly setting is designed to make the experience as comfortable as possible while delivering high-quality outpatient care from clinicians experienced in caring for pediatric patients.
